While spring and fall are the true cleansing seasons, our summer health can benefit from a little dietary and lifestyle tune-up to help the body clear excess dosha, especially pitta, the dosha governing inflammation. (What's a dosha? Check out the glossary on the Resources page.)
Summer cleanses are more moderate than spring and fall (shorter too), and I see them as a fun time to experiment with the rainbow harvest of summer. Summer squashes, leafy greens, juicy fruits, and light grains all make delicious inspiration, and of course that's just the beginning. As anyone with a strong pitta prakriti knows, a meal should be pleasing to the eyes, the tastebuds, and filling too! The summer cleansing diet embraces variety and leaves you feeling light, calm, and satisfied.
With the long days of summer, it's easy to get caught up in being busy and "productive" until the sun goes down quite late. In summer cleansing, yoga and lifestyle suggestions support cultivating the lunar, or more mellow, aspects of our day to balance what can be an excess firey drive of pitta dosha.
All in all, it ends up being a great deal of fun that helps you feel refreshed and recommitted to caring for your body, mind, and heart. I hope you'll join us!
